Lemons in a Blue Bowl | Original Acrylic Painting | Jane D'Arcy Art

This is a real favourite of mine — I just love the vibrancy of the colours.

Inspiration

It was such a hot and balmy summer here in the UK, reminiscent of Mediterranean summers, which led me to think about what we might grow here if it was this hot all the time. Lemons always evoke memories of hot summers, homemade lemonade, lemon meringue pies, lemon cake, or a G&T with ice and a slice. How lovely it would be to have a lemon tree to pick fresh lemons bursting with juice.

Reference

There wasn't one — not even a single lemon! This piece was painted completely intuitively; the composition, colours, and subject all came from my imagination and memory. I love the freedom of painting this way — no pressure, no perfection, just loose and free.
